In a ‘royal’ feud among the family members of erstwhile Chuda princely state in Surendranagar district, two family members have approached the Gujarat High Court with an appeal to quash a criminal complaint registered against them. The complaint was lodged by the widow of the late ruler of the princely state at the local police station.
The petitioners have been identified as Krishnakumar Jhala and his wife Jayakumari. Krishnakumar is the eldest son of the late ruler of Chuda state, Dharmendra Jhala.

The Punjab National Bank (PNB) achieved the target of opening hundred per cent accounts in Mera village of Dasada taluka in Surendranagar district on Wednesday under its financial inclusion programme.
A K Roy Choudhary, deputy general manager, PNB Ahmedabad circle, told reporters on Thursday that hundred per cent accounts would also be opened in Borana village of Limbdi taluka and Chaukdi village of Chuda taluka in Surendranagar district on Friday.

State rights panel reels under severe staff crunch

Faced with a severe staff crunch, the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has asked the government to fill up vacant posts so as to strengthen the functioning of the Commission and help it dispose complaints of human rights violation it has been receiving from the general public from across the state.
The SHRC, headed by former Gujarat High Court Chief Justice D S Sinha is learnt to have expressed its displeasure over the inordinate delay on the part of the Modi Government in nominating two non-government members - one from the judiciary and another human rights activist — to the Commission.
