AMC has won the 2006 Dubai International Award for best practices for its slum networking programme to improve the urban environment. Among ten awardees, AMC is the only Indian city to figure in the list of 10 winners, said an AMC release on Thursday.
AN AMC release said that over the past three years, AMC had submitted nomination twice and now, at the third attempt, its initiative been awarded. This time, there were 715 entries from all over the world out of which 690 qualified and 48 were shortlisted for the Award. Finally, ten submissions were selected for the award, with AMC being only winning submission. The award consists of $30,000, a trophy and a commemorative certificate. The award will be presented at a special ceremony in Dubai next year. The final date is yet to be announced, the release adds. The Award was launched in 1995 for the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat-II) to identify works in improving living conditions on sustainable basis, the release adds.
