Ganguly threatens not to play for Bengal


Peeved at "some people in Bengal cricket" harassing his family, particularly his brother Snehashish, former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday threatened to stop playing for the state.


However, denying any fall-out with former ICC chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, who is fighting for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) top post in the AGM on July 29, Ganguly said, "I've nothing against Dalmiya."

Pilvai PTC girl students want to go to other colleges


All the 23 girl students of the Pilvai PTC College — who had run away from the hostel last week — and their parents demanded that the state government should transfer them to other PTC colleges.

The girls accompanied by their fathers came to the KB Dave PTC College, Pilvai, in Mehsana district today for the first time since they had left the hostel on July 5.

Maya sets up cell for Muslims


The Mayawati government has decided to set up a separate cell to deal with the problems being faced by Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. The move is aimed at placating the Muslim community whose votes are now crucial for the BSP in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

The cell will be set up by the state advisory council that is headed by BSP MP Satish Chandra Misra.

According to highly placed sources, the decision to set up the cell was taken after various delegations of Muslim clerics and religious leaders met the chief minister Mayawati and Mr Misra in the past week and apprised them of the problems of the community.
