Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) on Friday announced that it has awarded the contract to operate retail stores at both the international and do-mestic terminals to a consortium comprising two companies, Nuance Group AG and Shopper’s Stop Limited.
The retail stores at the international terminal will be managed jointly by the Nuance Group AG and Shopper’s Stop Ltd., whereas Shopper’s Stop will handle the retail store at the domestic retail. The two stores together cover a floor space of approximately 35,000 sq. ft. and the contract is valid for five years.
Overall, the contract value amounts to $150 million, the company informed.
"We are committed to a fair partnership approach between airport and retailer in order to maximise consumer satisfaction and commercial returns," said Mr Albert Brunner, CEO, BIAL.
Bangalore airport is India’s fourth biggest airport and also the one with the highest growth rate. The airport handled seven million passengers on an annual basis as on April 2006, out of which one million travelled internationally. However, the airport expects passenger traffic to increase to nearly 15 million by 2008-end.

New Delhi, Dec. 1: India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) on Friday signed an agreement to set up a joint study group (JSG) at a meeting of the EFTA council in Geneva in the presence of the commerce and industry minister Mr Kamal Nath.
EFTA comprises the member states of Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland. Also present in the meeting was Ms Doris Leuthard, Federal Councillor, Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Switzerland.
Chairperson of the EFTA council and ministers from all other member states were also part of the meeting. A communication from the ministry of commerce here said that announcing the setting up of the JSG, Mr Nath said, "We are looking forward to a deeper economic engagement with EFTA". Mr Nath also said, "We share a warm and friendly relationship with EFTA states. There cannot be any better way to further strengthen these relationships than by talking about enhancing trade and investment flows."
The EFTA was founded in 1960 as a means of achieving growth and prosperity amongst its member states as well as promoting closer economic co-operation between Western European Countries.
