Nothing can dampen the Gujarati spirit. Tragedies, natural disasters and even terrorist activities have failed to prevent the people of Gujarat from enjoying life to the hilt. The Gujarati resilience is at its best display this Navratri. Memories of the Mumbai blasts which had targeted the community, floods, intelligence reports of possible terror attacks, busting of the Lashkar-e-Toiba module in Ahmedabad and most recent letter found in M J Library have been buried and Amdavadis are dancing the blues away in gay abandon. The looming cyclone too failed to throw a wet blanket on Navratri plans in Saurashtra. Nothing has been compromised on, be it venues or emptying pockets on beautiful traditional attires. The only hitch for people seems to be the 12 ’o clock deadline.
Garba enthusiasts are thronging to venues and organisers are taking no chances with the security looking at the lurking terror threat. The festival is proving to be lucrative time for private security agencies. Mumbai-based Zicom Security System, has decided to provide closed circuit cameras to the garba organisers in the State free of cost, its CEO Shantanu Chaudhary said. CCTVs have been installed at the venues for constantly monitoring the movements of people.
Metal detectors, dog squads and hundreds of private security personnel and guards have been deployed in addition to police personnel. Some housing colonies too have hired private security for garba.
“Terror threats are not going to stop us from enjoying Navratri. This is one festival we look forward to,” says Kinjal Thacker, a mother of two little girls. Kinjal makes sure that she and her daughters have nine chaniya choli sets for nine nights and does not mind splurging on them.
Nital Dave, a homemaker, too designs chaniya cholis for her enthusiastic daughter. “Instead of going for common designs available in the market, I embroider them at home and make sure we don’t miss out on the festival terror threats or no terror threats,” she says.
