Telecom regulator TRAI will on Tuesday consult all stakeholders on roaming tariffs, even as some anaylsts feel that operators having pan-India presence should not charge customers for such services."There should not be any roaming charges when the subscriber is within the same network," says an analyst.
TRAI will be holding Open House Discussion in New Delhi tomorrow with all the stakeholders including national operators and other regional players on "Review of Ceiling Tariffs for Roaming Services".
Besides roaming charges, industry watchers feel that TRAI must intervene to ensure that monthly rentals and call tariffs charged by operators were cost-based.

TRAI to review roaming tariffs
January 5, 2007, 9:47 amIndia plans to be finalised by March: Nissan
January 5, 2007, 9:43 am
Japanese auto major Nissan on Tuesday said it expects to finalise its India plans, including setting up of a manufacturing facility, by March this year as it is still at an early stage of talks with Mahindra-Renault for a joint venture."Discussions with Mahindra-Renault are still at an initial stage and we have not finalised anything yet at this stage," a senior official of Nissan Motor India said.
Last year Nissan had pulled out of talks with Japanese counterpart Suzuki to set up a joint manufacturing unit for compact cars in favour of joining the Mahindra-Renault team.
The official, however, reiterated it would be premature to say if Nissan would partner with Mahindra-Renault or set up the manufacturing facility on its own.

Trinamool threatens to sue Tata
January 5, 2007, 9:27 am
Threatening to move a privilege notice or file a defamation suit against Tata group chief Ratan Tata, the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday gave him a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw his comment that his "competitors" had been fuelling protests against a proposed car plant at Singur."We have given seven days to Mr Ratan Tata to withdraw his comment that his competitors had been fuelling the agitation at Singur," Leader of Opposition Partha Chatterjee said.
Failing this, he said, the Trinamool "will explore possibilities of moving a privilege motion in the next session of the assembly or filing a defamation suit against" Tata.
Speaking at the end of a meeting of Trinamool's current and past MLAs here, Chatterjee said the meet passed a resolution describing as "an example to the country" party chief Mamata Banerjee's protest for farmers at Singur, the site of the proposed car project of Tata Motors.
