Accel, LongTale join hands


Accel Animation Studios, a division of Accel Transmatic Ltd, on Wednesday announced that it has forged a an alliance with the California-based LongTale International, a global digital media development and intellectual property management firm, to develop, produce and distribute animation movies for the global market.

The Chennai-based company will produce 133 episodes of Thirukkural and LongTale will distribute it globally. The company will also develop and co-produce an English language animation feature film, Citzenz, in association with the Los-Angeles-based Netrrikan and with Omar Kaczamrczyk, MD of Lone Tale as executive producer

"We will be investing around Rs 15 crore to strengthen our production capability and will recruit 100 more animators in this year," said N.R. Panickar, chairman and MD of Accel Transmatic.

The company will also expand its infrastructure to include motion capture, chroma key studio, post-production facility, film scanning and recording.

Accel Animation Studios has completed 40 minutes of visual effects with a single character animation for a Hindi feature film tilted ‘Friends Forever’.

and is also in the final stages of completing ‘Raju the AutoRikshaw’ an English language animated DVD movie for the Canada- based Kahani World.

Quoting a Nasscom study, he said, global animation and gaming market is poised to touch $285 billion by 2009. The Indian market will have a market size of $950 million by 2009. "With the combined production, co-production and outsourcing strategy and a strong global partner, we can contribute in developing the industry," Mr Panikar added.

Speaking on the significance of this strategic alliance, Mr Omar Kaczamarczyk, the founder of LongTale said, "This relationship with Accel continues LongTale’s decade long adventure to bring Indian content beyond the NRI world and into radically changing global market place."

Apollo-IBM JV to set up ‘Health Super Highway’


Hyderabad, April 4: Healthcare major Apollo Hospitals plans to set up a "Health Super Highway" in collaboration with IBM, linking 900,000 doctors across the country.

This will include a software framework from IBM that was developed to allow electronic information to be more easily shared and mined among hospitals across the country.

"This project will be a 50:50 joint venture between Apollo and IBM," said Apollo Hospitals founder and chairman Dr Prathap C Reddy, on the sidelines of a CII seminar here on Wednesday.

Dr Reddy said, "Initially IBM proposed a 80:20 JV for this project, but after several rounds of deliberations we both agreed upon 50:50 JV."

Microsoft has also expressed interest in partnering in the project, Dr Reddy added. "We have not taken any decision on Microsoft’s proposal so far. We are evaluating various options on this," he said.

"The project will be implemented in phases. In the first phase, which is expected to be completed by this year end, will link 150 centres in four zones," Dr Reddy said.
