Sun will add million software developers


Sun Microsystems on Tuesday said it will a add a million software developers globally, including from India, to enhance its operations. "India continues to grow and we are adding at least 20,000 software developers to our programme here. We are looking at adding software developers across the globe," Matt Thompson, director of technology outreach, Sun Microsystems, told reporters on the sidelines of Sun Tech Day 2006 here.

Laurie Tolson, vice-president, Java Platform Group, said, "We are partnering with various IITs to impart Java training for software developers besides also the merging of next-generation technologies." She said Sun had committed to open-sourcing its entire software portfolio using industry-standard open source licensing model to allow customers to have easy and broad access of its source code.

Sun Tech Days 2006 is a forum providing professionals developers, programmers, web developers, content providers, service providers and systems integrators with technology trainings and tools necessary for developing competitive application for the Internet, intranet and enterprise environment.



Google opens Delhi operations


In line with its strategy of stepping up investments in India, the world’s leading search engine, Google, on Tuesday announced the opening up of two sales and marketing offices.The new offices would primarily focus on increasing Google’s advertising revenue by leveraging on local presence. Google’s country head (Indian sales operations) Ashish Kashyap said, "Google has opened its business operations in Delhi and Mumbai, marking its continued investment in the country."

The Google India team will forge relationships with businesses, partners and agencies throughout the region and enable them to take advantage of this growth in e-commerce.Google’s advertisers in India currently include Citibank, Monster India, Bharatmatrimony.Com, MakeMyTrip, SpiceJet, Kingfisher Airlines, ICICI Bank, Shaadi.Com, Ebay India, and Birla Sunlife.

Mr Kashyap did not reveal the current ad revenue, but said it was growing and otherwise the local direct operations would not have happened. These operations complement existing centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad and are designed to enable Google to develop business opportunities.
