City doctors help Nigerian girl play again

A team of doctors at Sterling Hospital in the city recently performed Fallot’s tetralogy — a rare surgery — on a four-year-old
Nigerian child. Ireoluwa Gbdamosi was suffering from a severe structural defect of heart known as blue baby syndrome (BBS). Ireoluwa came all the way from Nigeria this surgery, which was successfully performed on October 27.
According to doctors at the hospital, BBS is a rare defect found in 40 out of 10 lakh children. It starts developing in the foetal stage itself. Because of this condition, the child’s skin becomes blue whenever (s) he is involved in any physical activity.
