Nokia phones to get a meaningful name

Nokia, the world's top handset maker, said on Thursday it will name its new phone models, following the success of its rivals with their Razr and Chocolate phones.

"What you will see coming from us in the future is not just a numbering system, you are going to start to see names that carry a meaning and are important to consumers," Keith Pardy, head of marketing at Nokia, said at a webcast from a Citigroup's investor meeting in New York.

Earlier this week, Nokia unveiled phone models 7390, 7373 and 7360.

Rival Motorola has enjoyed booming sales due to its RAZR phone, and LG Electronics has seen strong demand for its Chocolate model, a thin phone with dark cover.

What ate up the moon that night

Avid sky watchers across the country witnessed a partial lunar eclipse late Thursday night. Stargazers gathered at the Nehru Planetarium at Teen Murti here to watch the 90-minute celestial spectacle, thanks to clear weather conditions.

“Only 18% of the lunar disc will fall under the shadow of the Earth. The eclipse began at 11:35 pm and the Earth’s shadow leaves the moon at 1:07 am,” said Chander Devgun, president of Science Popularisation Association of Communica-t ors and Educators (SPACE). SPACE in association with the Nehru Planetarium had set up several telescopes on the lawns of Teen Murti Bhawan to enable viewing of the event for the general public.

Interestingly, while the eclipse is in progress, a faint star named “H-aquarius” (from the aquarius constellation) was seen moving behind the moon and reappearing from the other side.
