Samsung eyes 25% growth in IT business

In a market crowded with IT behemoths such as Dell, HP and LG, Samsung India has chalked out plans to garner a sizeable market share with the launch of TFT LCD monitors. The South Korean major is eyeing a 200 per cent growth in TFT LCD monitors, senior company officials said here on Tuesday.

“TFT LCD monitors, printers and Note PCs would be the flagship categories that would drive the company’s hi-end sales for out IT business this year,” Princy Bhatnagar, head-value business, IT Sales, Samsung India said.

The IT business contributes 27 per cent to Samsung India’s revenues and the company is expecting a growth of 20-25 per cent this year.
The company is also enhancing the production capacity of its TFT-LCD monitors, Mr Bhatnagar said.

“We expect TFT-LCD monitors to contribute 20 per cent by volume and 35 per cent by value to our total monitor sales this year,” he said at the launch of the new “Hydn” and “Vivaldi” series of 15, 17 and 19 inches TFT LCD monitors.

Besides, Samsung India will be setting up 15 IT stores throughout the country in 2006, with one planned for Hyderabad by the second quarter of this year.

Samsung also launched ‘Awesome Twosome’ consumer promotions for 17 inch TFT LCD Monitors and announced its plans to strengthen its information technology business in the country by focusing on technology leadership and product innovation as its key strategies. The company aims to sell 25,000 units of TFT LCD monitors during the promotion period.

Mr Bhatnagar said the company had launched its new, advanced ‘Hydn’ Series of TFT LCD monitors in 15”, 17” and 19” screen sizes and ‘Vivaldi’ Series in 17” screen size. Samsung also boosted its Note PC lineup by launching new ‘thin and light’ Note PCs on the Nappa platform.
