Modi reviews his ministers’ performance

In a politically significant development on Wednesday, Chief Minister Narendra Modi took a marathon four-hour class of his ministers and reviewed their half yearly performance.

Carrying a 35-page review agenda, Modi sought to know from the respective ministers the performance on various department schemes under their charge. The ministers were backed by an entourage of officialdoms to fill in details of the facts and figures that the Chief Minister demanded.

Sources said Modi even chided some ministers in his brusque style for not being up to the mark. According to some officials present to assist the ministers, Modi was particularly unhappy with the performance of Forest Minister Mangubhai Patel, Education Minister Ramanlal Vora and Fisheries Minister Parsottam Solanki.

“The CM asked specific questions on the involvement of ministers in schemes like the Krushi Rath Yatra, and Kanya Kelavani among others,” said an official in the Chief Minister’s Office.

He also sought details of the tours made by the ministers, public functions attended during the same, as also the impact it had on the governance. He asked some of his ‘unprepared’ colleagues to get ready with numbers on the performance of their respective departments.

The meeting was held at Van Chetna Kendra on the city outskirts, as against the usual venues like Secretariat or CM's official residence.
