The North Avenue residence of BJP MP Chander Bhan Singh, who abstained from voting in Tuesday’s trust vote in Parliament in defiance against the party’s diktat of voting against the motion, was attacked by a mob of over 100 BJP Yuva Morcha activists on Thursday.
According to the police, which has arrested 29 rioters, the mob attacked the guards at the main entrance gate, entered the premises and began pelting stones at the house while shouting slogans against the MP for supporting the Congress in the trust vote.
"I was inside the house with my family when the incident happened. I saw many people with stones in their hands rushing towards the main door. We immediately locked all the doors, but the mob began hurling stones and even flower pots at the windows. My family is terrorised after the incident," said the MP from Madhya Pradesh.
Personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Delhi police were rushed to the MP’s residence to control the mob which had surrounded the house and trapped the MP and his family inside.
"My life is in extreme danger and this incident was carried out on the orders of senior BJP leaders. I want extra security to protect my family from any violence in the future. The police force arrived on time, otherwise anything could have happened to my family," added Mr Singh.
A case of rioting has been registered at the Parliament Street police station and investigations are on.
