Two days after bombs were found tied on trees, hanging from flyovers, inside cars parked in crowded places, Surat shrugged off its fear and life and business continued as usual in the city.
Diamonds were being polished like before, the power looms sputtering, and the brave even indulged in some banter over the unexploded bombs.
Varachcha, the mini diamond manufacturing hub, witnessed traders pondering over diamonds like any other day. Schools and colleges in the city remained open.
Mangubhai Patel, Minster for Environment and Forests also visited the city on Thursday. He was seen standing among the people when the Bomb Disposal Squad was checking out what later turned out to be a hoax bomb call.
On the other hand, Vadodara, which has been deluged with bomb threats since Saturday's serial blasts in Ahmedabad, continues to remain partly affected. Alkapuri, one of the major shopping areas in the city was minus its usual hustle and bustle on Thursday, with many shops keeping their shutters down. Most of the offices in the city remained open, though.
The Vadodara Stock Exchange received a letter threatening to blow up the premises and the police had to evacuate it. In the M S University, most of the faculties remained closed for the second consecutive day.
Ahmedabad, which was on its toes almost as soon as the serial blasts were over, remained unaffected with the hoax calls and the recovery of live bombs in Surat. Schools and colleges remained open and business continued unhindered in all parts of the city.
