Tragedy struck the two families on the same day and in a similar fashion. While Israr, 8, was declared dead by the doctors at the Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital this evening, Geeta, the mother of Rohan Vyas, 11, has literally turned into a stone after cremating her son, five days after she lost her husband, Dushyant, in Saturday’s serial blasts in the city.
“Israr was on life support system. While his heart was functioning, he was practically dead. We took him off the ventilator support today,” said a doctor at the hospital.
Md. Jalil, Israr’s father and a local barber seems to have come to terms with the death of his son. But, all along he was hoping for some miracle.
“He had some idea that his son would not survive and he seems to have calmed down,” the doctor added. Meanwhile, Israr's mother, Shugra Banu is still at the hospital. She too was hit by the pellets in the blast at Narol Circle on Saturday. The mother and son were returning from Shugra’s brother’s house.
Elsewhere, Geeta has not shed tears over the loss of her elder son. “She stood by the pyre silently; Ever since the tragedy struck, we have not seen her crying,” said Guman Singh, the chairman of the housing society where she lives.
Dushyant had bought a cycle for his children and had taken them out on riding lessons that fateful day. The blast had killed Dushyant immediately and left his sons Yash (
and Rohan severely burnt.Yash is still unaware of his brother's death. "Writhing in pain, he didn’t even realise, when his brother’s body was taken away for cremation,” said Singh.
