Police Inspector B M Rajvanshi, who was posted at the Sardar Sarovar dam site, was transferred to the Rajpipla Local Crime Bureau (LCB) on Thursday.
The transfer comes a day after The Indian Express reported that the security personnel at the site were turning away Muslim tourists in view of the security threat. Narmada Superintendent of Police Khurshid Ahmed said, "Rajvanshi has been transferred to the Rajpipla LCB."
Ahmed, however, refused to comment on the issue. Sources in the police said that Inspector G N Sarvaiya has been deputed at the Sardar Sarovar security post. While denying entry to the dam site, Rajvanshi had allegedly told a Chartered Accountant and an NRI family from London that they belong to the village from where bombs were procured.
“Abhi abhi toh wahan se bomb mile hain (bombs have been recovered from there just now),” the security personnel were quoted as saying by Ismail Belif when his sister Yasmeen Manjhwa visited the dam with her family.
Behavioural disorder
Inspector B M Rajvanshi is known in Vadodara for his rash decisions. According to sources close to him, his promotions have been stopped because of his errant behaviour. In April 2007, he was in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Rajvanshi had beaten up a youth in Dandia Bazar area of Vadodara with slippers for allegedly stealing something. Known for his “wannabe Bond” style of functioning among his juniors and his hunger for publicity, Rajvanshi's antics got him to Narmada district, where he had again faltered and got transferred.
