Imran Sheikh, one of the ten youths arrested by the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) for his alleged role in the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts, had done a recce of the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital along with some of the co-conspirators during his stay at the hospital for the treatment of his ailing father, Ibrahim Shaikh, the police said.

The DCB said Imran's father was a heart patient, and being a BPL card holder, he had received free treatment at the U N Mehta Heart Hospital in the Civil Hospital compound between March and April, 2008. He was admitted to the hospital at the end of June and remained there till July 9.

The police said, during his interrogation, Imran, a resident of Vadodara had confessed to have spent at least three nights at the Civil Hospital during his father's treatment. It was during this period that four of the co-accused, Yunus Mansuri, Usman Agarbattiwala, Zahid Shaikh and Samsuddin Shaikh visited him and did a recce of the Trauma Centre and the Civil Hospital.

The DCB has termed the presence of Imran and the other co-accused at the Civil Hospital very significant. They said it was during this period that they took decisive steps to orchestrate the blast at the Civil Hospital's Trauma Centre, which claimed 36 lives.

The DCB said the interrogation of the ten accused in the case also revealed that several SIMI activists from across the country had attended the terror training camps near Halol in Gujarat and other places in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.

DCB releases photo of blast mastermind
The DCB has released the photo of one of the two masterminds of the serial blasts, Abdul Subhan Usman Queshi alias Qasim alias Zaqir alias Kab alias Tauqir (Ansar) of Mira Road in Thane. Qureshi had allegedly hatched the Ahmedabad blasts conspiracy along with one Qayamuddin, who is also absconding in the case. The police said Qureshi worked as an editor and publisher of a Delhi-based monthly — Islamic Movement, and is wanted in at least five terror cases, including the Mumbai train blasts.
