Japanese investment in India gets boost

The thaw in India-Pakistan relations has helped to recede fears of a nuclear confrontation in the sub-continent and this has had a positive spin-off in changing how India is perceived among Japanese businesses and corporates,' according to Japan's envoy in India.

Japanese companies have been consistently for the last two years viewing India as a promising destination for investment and one contributing factor is a greater recognition today of India's economic fundamentals, ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. Yasukuni Enoki told reporters on Tuesday.

To cash in on this "second investment boom" after the first wave of investments witnessed in the mid-1990s, he said a number of high-power trade delegations are expected in India over the next three months, starting with the November 27-December 1 visit by the Japan Federation of Economic Organisations.
