She does not know Maria Susairaj, the Kannada actress who with her Naval officer boyfriend caught the headlines for the murder of passion in Mumbai recently. But Ahmedabad's Megha Shah (22) and her boyfriend Chirag Rana (25) drew parallels with them after they killed the girl's ex-boyfriend for allegedly blackmailing her.
According to the Adalaj police, Megha and Chirag, both residents of Parasnagar in Naranpura area, stabbed to death Krunal Pancholi (25), a resident of Suryam Bungalows, on August 18. They later threw acid on the body to prevent its identification. Both have been sent to police remand till August 29.
The police said, Megha and Krunal were having a relationship in the past. Gradually, their relationship turned sour, and Megha started seeing Chirag, who was staying in the same apartment.
“The girl said that during her relationship with Krunal, he had made some video clips of her in compromising positions. Of late, he started threatening her that if she did not continue with physical relationship with him, he would make the clippings public,” said Sub-Inspector N D Chauhan.
Megha informed Chirag about the issue, and they hatched a plan to kill Krunal, who used to work for a computer company near Helmet Circle in the Naranpura area.
“On August 18, Megha called up Krunal and asked him to come to her residence. When Krunal reached there, Megha accompanied by Chirag inflicted around 22 knife wounds on him, resulting in his death,” said Chauhan.
The duo then put the body in a plastic bag and dumped it in bushes near Tarapur village of Gandhinagar district. The body was spotted by a villager on August 21, who informed the police. During investigations, the police found that the last call received on Krunal's cellphone was that of Megha. When the police interrogated her, she confessed to her crime.
The police have recovered Krunal's laptop to verify Megha's statement that the clips are stored in it. “We do not have the password to access the laptop, it has been sent to the FSL,” said Chauhan.

Krunal (25) was a resident of Paras Nagar in the Naranpura area where Megha lives. He had started seeing the girl during his stay here. Later, he shifted to Suryam Bungalows on the Science City Road. He used to work as a technical co-ordinator for a software company near Helmet Circle in the area.

Megha (22), a final-year student of Diploma in Computer at Government Polytechnic in Ahmedabad, used to be alone at home during most of the daytime as her parents work at a showroom in the Income Tax office area. Being a student of computer, she had developed a proximity to Krunal – a computer techie.
Chirag Rana, the co-accused
Chirag (25) is a commerce graduate who is working as a stock broker in Ahmedabad. He had developed a relationship with Megha after her break-up with Krunal. Chirag, a resident of Paras Nagar, was, according to Megha's mother, a complete stranger for the family. Megha's mother said that they came to know about Chirag when she confessed to having a relationship with him after the murder came to light.
