Ahmedabad Civil Hospital starts procedure for Phase III registration
While the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital started the procedures for registering with the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Laboratories (NABH/NABL) under Phase III a fortnight back, seven other hospitals in the state have reached the pre-assessment stage (Phase I).
This is for the first time in the country that seven public hospitals in any state have reached the pre-assessment stage. They include the district hospitals at Godhra, Valsad, Junagadh, Kutch, Rajpipla, Gandhinagar and Sola. The final assessment process for these are expected to be completed by the next month.
In consonance with the quality improvement drive initiated by the Health Department, the officials have estimated a 100 per cent increase in the healthcare facilities as per the NABH standards of the Phase I hospitals and 70 per cent of the Phase II hospitals.
Eight district hospitals at Surendranagar, Porbandar, Petiad, Nadiad, Navsari, Amreli, Himmatnagar, and Jamna Bai Hospital in Vadodara have reached Phase II.
Nine district hospitals at Dahod, Kheda, Patan, Morvi, Limdi, Ahwa-Dang, Bharuch, Khambhaliya and Surat are in Phase II. Hospitals in Phase I have already received the government grants, while those in the second phase are expected to receive grants in a month's time.
The hospitals in Phase III will, however, have to wait till 2009 when the grants will be declared.
J L Meena, State Quality Assurance Officer (Commissionerate of Health) said: “The entire process of accreditation will take another two years.”
Chandreshsinh Jadav, Monitoring and Evaluation officer of the Health Department said: “The accreditation process for the hospitals in Phase I will complete before 2009, the ones in Phase II will take over a year while those in Phase III will complete the process by 2010.”
Meanwhile, all the six Medical College Laboratories at Surat, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Vadodara and Ahmedabad have registered under Phase I of the NABL.
