GSRTC set to add pleasure to your bus journey

10 modern bus terminals proposed; ATMs, mineral water purifying units at all bus stations by next month

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has proposed 10 modern bus terminals on a Private-Public Partnership (PPP) model in several cities of Gujarat. This follows the major initiative by the state government and GSRTC to upgrade and modernise the seven new bus terminals, two each at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and one at Mehsana.

The GSRTC board has already cleared the proposal and placed it before the state government for approval. The proposed terminals will come up at Rajkot, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Navsari, Godhara, Patan, Amreli and Nadiad. The total cost of the project is pegged at around Rs 4,600 lakh.

These bus terminals would have top-notch facilities for passengers.

H J Parmar, the Chief Civil Engineer of GSRTC, told Newsline, “We will soon start work on the seven approved bus terminals, and hope the state government would approve our new proposal on the basis of our past performance.”

Another senior GSRTC official said: “We will introduce 1,200 new buses with FM radio/music system and other facilities. By mid-October, we will have mineral water purifying units and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) at major bus stations in the state.”

Parmar further said: “Initially, mineral water purifying units will be set up at 80 major bus stations in the state. These will be handed over to private agencies on rent and water will be available to the people for a price. The cost of such a unit is estimated to be around Rs 2.25 lakh.”

Earlier, the GSRTC used to reject proposals from banks to set up ATMs at bus stations since there was no such policy in place. But things have changed now, said Parmar. “By mid-October, we will also see ATMs at around 50 major bus stations in the state,” he added.
