Groups clash outside Gandhi ashram

A clash between two groups outside Gandhi ashram after Sabarmati police razed two illegal structures outside state-owned Toran Hotel op
posite the ashram on Thursday morning.

The police officials had worked on the complaint filed by some of the ashram inmates. The razing, however, led to verbal fight between two groups that was later resolved by Sabarmati police by dispersing the youths.

Sabarmati police officials said, a makeshift tea stall was created on the bench meant for visitors illegally two months back. The stall used to serve tea, coffee and snacks to visitors of the ashram. It was seen as a nuisance spot by the local residents.

Dhimant Badhiya, an ashram inmate, along with others, had informed Sabarmati police station about the structure and requested them to act on the complaint as Thursday was Gandhi Jayanti and ashram expected a huge turnout of visitors.
