A 20-year-old girl, Jhisal Patel, called up city police control room on Wednesday morning to inform that she was committing suicide.
By the time, the cops could reach her home at Anupam Society, Jodhpur in Satelite, she had hung herself. Police later said, “Her family members have told us that the suicide may have been caused by some restrictions imposed by her parents.”
It may have been a last desperate call for help from Jhisal. Jhisal had dialled 100 before she hung herself. The policeman who took her call says that she only said that she would not like to live any more and was going to commit suicide. She quickly hung up. The call was then traced and then Satellite police was informed.
According to Satellite police officials, daughter of a labour contractor, Jhisal was pursuing a B Tech course from a private university after competing her diploma in electrical engineering.
“She had not fared well in her studies. That is why her parents told her to focus more on studies and less on outdoor activities. This parental advice, however, depressed and stressed out Jhisal,” said police officials investigating the case.
When Satellite police sub-inspector, Harish Pancholi, reached Anupam Society in Jodhpur with a team of policemen, the family members were still dealing with the shock of Jhisal’s suicide.
“She had locked herself in, put a table near the door and hung self with a dupatta,” said a Satellite police official. Her mother was in the kitchen when Jhisal hung herself. Jhisal’s father and brother were out on work. Police had to break into the room from a window to enter the room. She had not left any suicide note behind, said officials.
