In a shocking incident, a six-year-old girl was raped and murdered by unidentified person(s) on the Sabarmati riverbed, just behind the Gaekwad Haveli Police Station, on Monday morning. The girl had gone missing from her hut in the Raikhad slums late on Monday night. Gaekwad Haveli police have registered a case of rape and murder against unidentified person(s) and begun investigations to nab the accused.
Gaekwad Haveli Inspector G H Khan said: “The girl went to bed around 9 pm. Her mother found her missing around 2 am, following which, she and the other family members began looking for her and even lodged a missing complaint with the police. The body of the girl was discovered around 7 in the morning.”
Khan said the body of the girl bore multiple injury marks on her head, throat and eyes. “It seems that the rapist killed her to conceal his identity. The exact cause of death would be known only after the post-mortem report. As of now, it seems to be the handiwork of only one person. We’ll get the full picture once we get the FSL report,” he said.
The police have launched a manhunt for the suspects in the nearby slums. Batulbibi belongs to Banaras in Uttar Pradesh. She has been living in the Raikhad slums along with her parents and children ever since her husband abandoned her five years ago. The deceased is the youngest of her three kids. Her relatives told Newsline they believed it to be the handiwork of one of the slumdwellers.
