Congress slams AMC hospital panel for ignoring queries

Congress Corporators alleged that Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's hospital committee paid no heed to queries by Opposition members. C
alling for strong remedies, Congress member of the committee, Iqbal Sheikh said, "All our written complaints and oral queries raising serious questions over problems in the AMC-run hospitals have fallen on deaf ears."

Opposition members alleged that after a huge fire at LG hospital damaged medical equipment worth over Rs 2 crore, no one had till date been held accountable for the mishap.

Congress Corporator and member of health committee, Daya Parmar said, "The orthopaedics department of Shardaben hospital is reeling under shortage of medical and advanced equipment. We have complained about this during the committee meeting in July but nothing concrete has been done so far."

Members also alleged rampant corruption in awarding birth and death certificates in Gomtipur ward under AMC.

They also alleged that even after the installation of digital X-ray machines at LG hospital and Shardaben hospital few months ago, the equipment was lying unutilised in absence of staff at the hospital.

Shanta Panchal, Congress corporator and member of the committee said," There are more than 200 posts of Class IV personnel in AMC-run hospitals lying vacant for past many years and this is causing a lot of discomfort to patients and doctors at these hospitals."

Dismissing the allegations, Tina Patel, chairperson of the committee, said, "There is nothing to say as they are completely baseless allegations. We are taking many steps at the hospitals."
