Cong, BJP come out with full lists of candidates for Assembly by-polls

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress came out with the full list of candidates for the seven Assembly by-poll seats on Monday, the last day of filing nominations.

The election will be held on September 10 and the counting will take place on September 14.

For the Danta seat, the BJP has nominated Vasant Bhatol, son of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation chairman Parthi Bhatol.

Vasant is also the BJP Yuva Morcha leader in Banaskantha district. He will face Congress candidate Nurbhai Umatiya, a former MLA from Danta.

Dr Bharat Boghra is the new BJP candidate for the Jasdan seat who joined the party after his candidature was announced. This has, however, caused considerable heartburn among the other aspirants. Dr Boghra was the election office incharge of sitting Congress MP Kunwarji Bawaliya during the Lok Sabha election this year. His rival, Congress candidate Bhavna Koli, is the daughter of Kunwarji Bawaliya.

On Chotila, the fight will be between BJP candidate Vashram Korani, president of the Chotila taluka panchayat and Congress candidate Manoj Jinjariya, son of late Popatbhai Jinariya. The seat fell vacant in the wake of Jinariya’s demise.

Dhoraji nagarpalika councillor Jaisukh Thesia has got the BJP ticket for Dhoraji and is pitted against Congress candidate Jayesh Radadiya, son of sitting MP Vithal Radadiya.

For the Kodinar seat, the contest will be between Bileshwar sugar factory chairman Natvarsinh Vala of the BJP and his Congress rival Dhirsinh Barad.

Kalyansinh Chauhan, who lost the Dehgam seat twice earlier, will contest on a BJP ticket this time.

The Congress has selected Dr C J Chavda for this seat.

Chavda was defeated in the 2007 Assembly elections on the Gandhinagar seat.

Bhavsinh Rathod is the BJP candidate on the Sami-Harij seat. In the Lok Sabha poll, Bhavsinh was leading over his rival Congress candidate in the Sami-Harij Assembly constituency. The Congress has selected Dinesh Thakor for this seat.

In this year’s Lok Sabha elections, the BJP was ahead of the Congress in Chotila, Kodinar, Dehgam and Sami segments. The Congress was leading in Dhoraji, Jasdan and Danta.
