More medical seats in Bihar

The NDA regime in Bihar has decided to increase seats in all six medical colleges of the state and also set up new ones. According to the government, the move is aimed at stopping the exodus of students from the state.

"A decision to increase seats in six medical colleges of the state has been. The government also plans to construct new medical colleges across the state," chief minister Nitish Kumar told mediapersons. The Bihar government’s announcement to increase seats in medical colleges and also to set up new institutions has come when there is a nationwide hue and cry over the Centre’s decision to provide reservation to other backward caste students in higher education. Health minister Chandra Mohan Rai said his government was trying to upgrade the physical and educational standard of medical colleges in Bihar to stop exodus of students.

"We would try that no seats in the medical colleges were left vacant and were filled on a regular basis," he said.

The state government would soon approach the Medical Council of India for a clearance. Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Darbhanga, Anugrah Narain Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH), Gaya, and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur, are the six state-run medical institutions of Bihar.
