Microsoft chief Bill Gates, who met chief minister J. Jayalalithaa at the state secretariat here on Friday, indicated that Chennai would be on the top of the list when his corporation finalised its expansion plans in India, according to a Tamil Nadu government communiqué.
The chief minister requested Mr Gates to establish high performance computing centres and an engineering product design and delivery centre of Microsoft Corporation in Chennai, pointing out that Chennai was the ideal location for such a centre with its vast pool of talent and mature eco-system of Information Technology and manufacturing industries as well as world-renowned academic institutions.
"Mr Gates was greatly impressed by the inherent strengths of Chennai and its exciting talent pool," the government communiqué said.
He promised full support to the state government’s initiative to take the benefits of information, communication and technology to the grassroots.
