Jet Airways postpones plans to fly to US till next year

Jet Airways has currently postponed its plans to fly to the US till next year as the lawsuit filed by its US-based namesake airlines has been referred to the home ministry in India by the US department of transportation.

The airline has already used all its long-haul aircraft to service the India-London sector. Mr Carl Saldanha, chief financial officer, Jet Airways said, "The conflict with US-based Jet Airways will in all probabilities be resolved in our favour very soon but the other pressing reason behind not being able to fly immediately to the US is that we need more long haul aircraft. We are already plying our long-haul aircraft to London as we have recently introduced a new flight on that circuit. So we need more long-haul aircraft before we think of plying on the Indo-US circuit."

Jet Airways executive director Saroj K. Dutta, refusing to comment on the same, said, "The situation is status quo as of now." Earlier, before the serious allegations were levelled against the airline in the US, it had planned to launch its flights from Mumbai to New Jersey via Brussels from the third week of June, 2005. The US-based airline had alleged that Jet Airways had terrorist links. Jet Airways had instructed its American lawyers to take legal action against the president and chief executive officer of the US-based Jet Airways and denied all allegations, and said that the American company was attempting to besmirch its name.
