Medicine shops soon on trains

If your grandmother complains of an upset stomach as soon the train leaves Lucknow station, you need not worry. If your younger daughter slashes her finger with a knife much before the train reaches Bhopal, you need not panic. And if you have forgotten to pack in your toothpaste kit, you do not need to fret.

Indian Railways will soon make available general medicines and over-the-counter drugs on trains. The Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express will be one of the first trains in which this service will begin shortly.

According to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) group manager Devesh Misra, the Railways are planning to introduce a mobile medicine shop on all important trains.

The medicine shop will stock general use drugs like painkillers, paracetamol tablets, first-aid kits, bandages, and the like.
