New Zealand sees partnership
in agro and telecommunications
The
trade ties between Gujarat and New Zealand can be developed in the field
of timber, agrotech sector and telecommunications and the trade partnership
between the two will be fruitful, said the trade commissioner of New Zealand
for India, Mr Peter Healy, on Thursday. He was speaking to the representatives
of trade and industry at an interactive session organised by the Gujarat
chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry here on Thursday.
Mr Healy is on a two-day
visit to Gujarat to explore vistas of bilateral trade between Gujarat
and New Zealand.
He said, "Agro-based industry
and dairy technology is the forte of New Zealand and prospects of partnerships
and trade in these sectors can be fruitful." He said that New Zealand
had a de-regulated economy, have no controls on capital movement, have
no import licensing and has tariff free import, which is an encouraging
sign for bilateral trade between the two countries.
Mr Healy has accepted ClI’s
offer for active Kiwi participation in the Agrifare 2000, scheduled to
be held in October in Abmedabad.
He said that he was positive
about the trade relations between Gujarat and New Zealand and suggested
that dual partnership between the two countries may benefit both.
Mr Healy met Ms Guari Kumar,
the managing director of Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation to discuss
potential of agro and food processing in Gujarat and the likely areas
of investment. The chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Gujarat,
Mr Kalyan Banerjee was also present on the occasion.
