From e-mails to e-albums: new site’s right choice for newly weds
From e-mails to e-weddings, the Internet makes it all possible. Besides getting married on the Net, couple can now post their wedding photographs on a site so that family and friends across the globe can take part in the celebrations.

Though e-albums are not a new concept in the west, this is the first time that myalbum4net.com, an Ahmedabad-based firm, will provide this service in the country.

‘‘It is a new concept here. Though posting photographs on the Net is not new in the country, this is the first time that an e-album has been launched. The e-album will consist of upto 50 photographs which will be displayed in an album form on the site. Each album would be given a different user name and all the customer has to do is pass on the name to his friends and relatives and they can check out the photographs on the site. This way privacy will also be maintained,’’ says Dr Himanshu Kumar, head of myalbum4net.com.

The site has various designs on offer. From albums that open up like storybooks to photographs that are exhibited in the form of film reels, there’s lots to select from. ‘‘We have dozens of designs and styles to select from and with every album, we have music to match the occasion. For Indian weddings, we have the shehnai and tabla beats while for parties and portfolios, we have everything from rock to pop,’’ says Kumar.

Though the site will be officially launched by May 15, work of loading the albums and designing the site started on May 1. ‘‘Just give us the photographs and we will get them scanned, correct the photo quality and upload an e-album within the next 48 hours. In the next two days, people from across the globe can take a look at the photographs,’’ says Kumar. The charge for having the album on the Net for a year would be Rs 999.

Kumar says that besides marriage albums, a number of models have also expressed interest in posting their portfolios on the site. That’s not all, a number of youngsters want to post their photos on the site to boost their matrimonial prospects.

‘‘The occasion does not matter, albums can be made for any reason. There are many who have shown an interest in showing off their family photographs or photographs clicked on a vacation,’’ says Kumar.

One of the those who will have two albums on the site is Dr Amit Chadha, who is an ENT surgeon. ‘‘I think it’s a great idea, it’s almost like a briefcase on the internet. I will have one ablum which will exhibit my family photographs while the second album will consist of photographs of surgeries done by me. The albums can be used for both personal and professional reasons,’’ he adds.

‘‘This is a great idea. There are a number of photographs that I would like to share with my friends and relatives and this is the perfect medium. The good thing about these albums is that the design makes you want to go through the photographs. A model client of mine, Jimmy Patel from Surat, is getting his portfolio designed into an e-album,’’ says Ilesh Shah, a noted city photographer.
