India’s 71.4% Vacancies Filled Through Employment Exchanges are in Gujarat

Gujarat : Gujarat has continued to be top in job placements notified through employment exchanges in India for the seventh consecutive year in 2009, Gujarat Government’s spokespersons ministers Jaynarayan Vyas and Saurabh Dalal said in Gandhinagar today.

As per the latest annual report of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, Gujarat provided jobs through the exchanges to 2.14-lakh people during 2009, as against that to 3.09-lakh in the entire country. This amounts to a whopping 71.4% of the total vacancies filled through employment exchanges.

Google Internet Bus Enters Gujarat on Two and Half Months Tour

Gujarat : Google’s Internet Bus today arrived in Gujarat. The bus will travel to various cities of Gujarat to make more people aware about internet and its benefits. About 26% people visiting the bus will use internet for the first time in their life through this bus.

The bus showcases internet content in both English and Gujarati languages to common people and school children in Gujarat.

“The Internet is a strong medium of knowledge. Our attempt through the Internet Bus is to spread the awareness of this medium and its relevance in our daily life. Google aspires to improve livelihoods, lifestyle and productivity for Indian users by generating and preserving income, leading to improved livelihoods and better lifestyles, by overcoming language and literacy barriers,” said Jagjit Chawla, product manager, Google India.

Science City Celebrates 41st Anniversary of Moon Landing

Ahmedabad The Gujarat Council of Science City on Tuesday celebrated the 41st Anniversary of the NASA Apollo 11 mission — the first manned lunar landing. A host of activities for students and visitors involving scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) were held.

The event began with a live phone-in program at Gyan Vani Radio with senior scientist R M Pandya from the ISRO Space Application Centre taking calls on how the moon could be mankind’s next habitat.

Locals Turn Heat on Ice Unit After Ammonia Leakage

Vadodara Tension mounted after a few residents had to be rushed to hospital following a gas leakage in an ice factory in Salatwada area of the city, with enraged residents gheraoeing the factory staff and owners before the police arrived and dispersed the mob.

Around 3 pm on Tuesday, ammonia gas began oozing out from one of the 12 valves located on the terrace of Shree Gayatri Ice Factory, which is surrounded by thickly populated residential societies and chawls. People smelt something was amiss and called the fire brigade, which plugged the leakage.

Canada is New Partner Country for Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2011

Gujarat : Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2011 has got a new partner. While Japan is already a partner country for Vibrant Summit 2011, the another country that is partnering with Gujarat for the summit is Canada. This was confirmed on Tuesday. The Gujarat government had invited Canada three months back for partnership in Vibrant 2011. The proposal has now been formally accepted.

Canada’s partnership is likely to bring a huge business delegation in Vibrant Summit 2011. Canada will also have a pavilion at the summit. Canada is likely to participate in pre-summit events also.

Gujarat Ships First Consignment of Banana to Africa

Gujarat : Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation(GAIC) exported first consignment of banana to Egypt from Gujarat from its newly commissioned banana pack house facility at Jhgadia in southern Gujarat district of Bharuch. The consignment contained 25 tonnes of banana. Gujarat already exports banana to middle east countries, but Egypt has opened a new African market according to GAIC Managing Director D Thara.

The banana pack house, set up at an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore, was commissioned by the state-run GAIC last month. The pack house has a pre-cooling and ripening chamber, besides de-latexing, grading, sorting, quality checking, weighing, labeling, packing in polybags, de-vacuuming, cold room storage and dispatch through reefer containers facilities.

Gujarat Government okays Three Ship Yard Proposals

Gujarat : Gujarat government’s Maritime Board spokesperson on Monday announced the state government has approved three projects, worth Rs 1,070 crore, for development of shipbuilding yards, off Gujarat coast line. This includes yards along the north bank of Narmada near Dahej, and old-port of Bhavnagar, according to Gujarat Maritime Board(GMB).

Small to medium size vessels are proposed to be constructed by these private players at the approved sites according to GMB spokesperson.

The three companies granted approval for developing shipbuilding yards are Modest Infrastructure at Nava Ratanpara in Bhavnagar, Dolphin Offshore at Jafrabad in Saurasthra and Bombay Marine at Koliyad near Dahej.

Gandhinagar : The Young Leaders Forum members of Mumbai based Indian Merchant Chambers called on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in courtesy call.

Chief Minister Modi discussed some important issues pertaining to Indian industries and government’s approach towards them. Following are the points raised by Modi in discussion.

-The subject of labor should not be in joint domain of centre and state. This issue should be handed over to state govts as exclusive state subject.

-Peace in Industries can not be maintained only on the bases of law. State governments should be empowered to implement better law practices through needed amendments.
