NIFT Graduates take their first
step into Fashion World.
The
"Design Collection" show is an event that each student in the fashion
design department dreams of from the day of joining the institute. National
Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar, on Friday presented
its second batch of 28 graduating students, the designers of tomorrow.
It’s a day when their dreams, woven with hard work and love reign on the
ramp.
The amateur designers drew
inspiration not only from India but also from far away lands like Egypt
and Africa. Even the Byzantine and Gothic eras found a place in their
designs. Tie-and-dye and bandhani gave a local flavour to the show.
The
students had used whites as well as vibrant colours; simple as well as
dramatic silhouettes and each collection was distinct from the other.
The collection not only bore testimony to their creativity but was practical
as well.
The designs ranged from men’s
wear to women’s wear and to the surprise of the audience there was a collection
for the little ones as well called ‘Children of the lesser Gods’. The
children walking down the ramp with immense confidence were quite impressive.
The enthusiastic students
went one step ahead by walking down the ramp along with professionals
from Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The
choreography was simple and without any frills. The emphasis was on the
garments, which were not only designed, but also patterned, sourced and
stitched by the students themselves.
For the presentation on the
ramp, a jury consisting of eminent personalities from the industry and
the fashion world scrutinized the collection. The panel decided on the
awards too.
The evening came to an end
with an introduction of the 20 students who took their first step into
the fashion world. Awards too were distributed to some students. However,
each student rightly deserved an award for his or her unique style.
