Saptak music fest begins on Oct 1
Will bring sixty promising
artistes on centrestage
It’s
time again for Ahmedabad to showcase the young and promising musicians
from various cities in the country. Beginning October 1, is the seven-day
annual Sankalp-Saptak music festival, to be held at the Gajjar Hall near
Law Garden, which will highlight the creative innovations and musical
sophistication of more than 60 musicians.
The repertoire will include
Hindustani classical music/vocal, instrumental and percussion.
Organised by the two-decade
old Saptak School of Music the young, talented artists participating in
the event since the last two or three years have testified to the growing
popularity of the board, sitar, santoor, tabla and vocal music.
The music lovers in the city
who throng the festival bear testimony to the scope for exploring and
encouraging nascent talent here.
Visitors to the festival
on earlier occasions spoke highly of the variety and quality of music
that comes to fore here.
The Meerut based Sankalp,
under whose auspices the current festival is going to be held, is not
merely an organisation, but a movement in itself with a string of network
of about 20 branches - Ahmedabad included - all over India.
In fact Sankalp is a landmark
in the field of India classical music.
The festival ending October
7, is sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation.
This year the 60-odd members
repeat some of the familiar faces, along with some new names. Along with
Vinod Vaishnav, Shishir Bhatt, Nakula Mishra and others from Ahrnedabad,
Suman Yadav, Monica Shah, Soma Singh will perform.
Nandan Mehta, the leading
light in Indian Classical music from the Ahmedabad centre will also be
present.
And as an annual feature
aiding the cause of art, will be the presentation of an award to Pt. Prakash
Wadhera, an eminent music critic from Delhi.
