'People need to come
out against the corrupt'
The
Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Mr. N. Vittal, has said corruption is affecting
the common and they should come out in the open to safeguard their interests.
He was delivering a lecture at the National Institute for Leadership and
Public Administration on Tuesday.
Talking about the level of
corruption prevailing in the public sector, he said that Indian government
should introduce hire and fire system in order to bring in sensitivity
as well as accountability in their jobs.
He said, public service jobs
are certain and the employees are destined to get pensions. He said that
meetings on corruption was very serious but government representatives
were not present at such meetings.
He also lauded Mr. Mahendra
Mashru of Junagadh, a man who contested elections to the Gujarat assembly,
without spending a single pie or patronage from any party.
Mr. Vittal said, "We wish
to have many such Mashrus in the next assembly elections when we go to
polls." He added that fight against corruption should be waged at national
level "as our leaders had started Quit India Movement."
