'People need to come out against the corrupt'

The Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Mr. N. Vittal, has said corruption is affecting the common and they should come out in the open to safeguard their interests. He was delivering a lecture at the National Institute for Leadership and Public Administration on Tuesday.

Talking about the level of corruption prevailing in the public sector, he said that Indian government should introduce hire and fire system in order to bring in sensitivity as well as accountability in their jobs.

He said, public service jobs are certain and the employees are destined to get pensions. He said that meetings on corruption was very serious but government representatives were not present at such meetings.

He also lauded Mr. Mahendra Mashru of Junagadh, a man who contested elections to the Gujarat assembly, without spending a single pie or patronage from any party.

Mr. Vittal said, "We wish to have many such Mashrus in the next assembly elections when we go to polls." He added that fight against corruption should be waged at national level "as our leaders had started Quit India Movement."
