The ‘Karishma’ continues

Everytime Karishma Modi steps in the Ahmedabad soil she brings in good news. Though when the phone purrs at her Memnagar residence, she is all but ready to give. "What yaar," she drawls lazily over the phone. "I am here for a holiday and let me have one in peace." But it’s another story that there’s lot happening to Karishma Modi (or Karu as she is known to closed ones) and her career ever since she won the Femina Look of the Year. Contest last year in Mumbai.

"I am anchoring a film-based show called Jubilee Plus for Star Plus which will be on air from next week. Primarily, we are interviewing film actors and personalities in this show. Till date, we have already interviewed Chandrachur Singh, Kundan Shah and Harry Baweja. There are people like Sanjay Suri and Akshay Kumar in the pipeline." Modi is pretty excited about this show which also has model Sanjay Singh (seen in many a music video and a top model) co-anchoring the show. Karishma can chat incessantly. Less wonder that director Rakesh Sharma chose her over others to host the show which would showcase another facet of her career after a brilliant beginning with the glamour world in Yehi To Pyar Hai. "I have just come back after a 15-day stint of shooting in Vadodara with Nethra Raghuraman, Sanjay Suri, Arun Bali and others and it was really hectic. Now we move to Jaipur for more shooting."

Karishma has been nixing offers left and right. She wants to do only the best. Ever since she won the Look of the Year crown, she has been getting offers but first it was studies and then she wasn’t happy with the feelers she was receiving.

Right now, negotiations are on for a mega serial on a prime channel but the girl is tightlipped. "There are too many slips between the cup and the lips."

Among other interesting adventures in her life has been a trip to Nairobi. "Actually, I went to do a show for Seema Roy who has got her own troupe. We were part of a fashion contingent. Another well-known model Kavita Ghariat was with me too. It was like a East meets West. I really enjoyed the show. Plus Nairobi is a wonderful place. In fact, there are more such shows coming. On August 5, I’ll be rampwalking for a NIFT’ show in Pune."

On the flip side, she is not disclosing the name of her current beau. "There’s someone but I am not naming him. I don’t want to fall into trouble," she says going into a fit of giggles. Try several names like Sudhir Yadav, Sanjay Suri and others and the model screams, "You will put me into trouble. Sudhir is just my college mate and Sanjay Suri is a co-actor. Nothing more. You are not getting this out of me." Touche!
