GLS gives education a fillip

Gujarat Law Society is introducing several new professional programmes. Some of these programmes are BBA, MBA, BCA & MCA. According to Sudhir Nanavati, honorary secretary, it has also taken up the challenge to partially alleviate the manpower shortage in the area of Information Technology by offering an AICTE approved post graduate MCA Programme in GLS Institute of Computer Technology and an under-graduate BCA Programme in GLS Institute of Computer Applications affiliated to Gujarat University from August 1999.

Both these courses are managed by experienced academic staff.

A spacious library has rich collection of books as well as journals on Computer Science and Information Technology. It also provides adequate reading facility.

For both these courses, separate well equipped computer laboratories with high-end servers and Internet facility have been established so as to provide students the facility to work in the laboratory extensively, even on weekend.

The progress of the students is monitored closely and extensive counselling is given, whenever necessary. Separate premises have been allocated to both the courses in two newly constructed buildings for smooth conduct of the programmes.

"Our MBA programme is unique. Firstly, the faculty members are selected very carefully. All of them, including the director of the MBA programme, possess not only MBA degree but have rich business experience. Most of the courses are project based. Several seminars and workshops are arranged with speakers from industry & government officials during the academic year. Our placement record is unique. More than 70 per cent of the students are placed by now in several organisations within and outside Gujarat."

Although this was the first batch passing out of the institute, the employers have shown keen interest in the institute’s recruitment programme. "I would like to mention two of our crowning achievements here. First is our participation in EU-India cross-cultural research programme. We are working on Gujarat model of business innovations in collaboration with some European universities. Secondly, in order to give fillip to entrepreneurial activities in Gujarat, we have established GLS - CED center for entrepreneurship development under which we offer one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship & Business Management to 60 students every year. This centre is supported partly by Gujarat government," says Nanavati.

Gujarat Law Society has been the vanguard of imparting the highest standards of education since its onset seven decades ago. Visualising a tremendous potential in Information Technology, GLS decided to cast its future on the die of Information Technology - resulting in Gujarat Law. Society’s Institute of Information Technology.

"It is imperative that we give every support to turning out the best possible IT professionals from our institute who will be up to facing the challenges of today’s world. Therefore, we see our institute as an investment in the future of the IT world."
