Court disposes petition for sabarmati by-polls 

The high court disposed the petition to direct the election commission and the state government for holding the by-election of Sabarmati constituency after the Election Commission submitted that it would complete the election process for the constituency by October 15, 2001.

The division bench comprising chief Justice D.M. Dharmadhikari and K.R. Vyas reserved the right of the petitioner to take up the matter with once again with the high court if elections in the constituency is not held within the specified time.

Advocate for the EC, Premal Nanavati, submitted that the process of holding elections in the Sabarmati is underway and it would be completed before October 15. The petitioner, Yogesh Patel had mentioned that though the elected representative of the constituency had resigned before six months the election commission and the state government did not bothered to hold the election till date.
