Five more builders arrested

The city police arrested seven more persons wanted for the collapse of buildings during the earthquake. The Vejalpur police arrested a father-son duo wanted for the poor construction of Giriraj Avenue at Vejalpur and Maninagar police arrested four persons of the same family wanted for poor construction of
Vishwadarshan Flats at Maninagar.

In the first arrest, the Vejalpur police arrested Tulsidas Sanghvi and his son Hiten Sanghvi, residents of Ramtirth society and builders of Giriraj Avenue at Vejalpur at about 6.30 pm. The building collapse claimed 10 lives in the earthquake.

The city police had arrested seven builders wanted in this connection till Tuesday and the recent arrest takes the toll to 12. The Maninagar police arrested 67-year-old builder Hasmmukh Kalidas Shah, civil engineer and builder 63-year-old Bhagwan Kalidas Shah, 73-year-old builder Jayanti Kalidas Shah and 50-year-old Bharat Shah, responsible for haphazard construction of Vishwadarshan Flats at Maninagar where eight persons died and 13 received serious injuries.

Inspector K.C. Patel of the Maninagar police station told that, "The four wanted for the collapse of Vishwadarshan flats are related to each other. They were arrested by the Maninagar police from the railway station
at 8.30 pm.

They were carrying bags so it appears as if they had just returned from out of station. However, more details can be obtained once interrogation is over." Ahmedabad: Meanwhile, in a tragic accident three family members died on the spot when the vehicle they were traveling in was hit by a speeding truck eight km from Ahmedabad.

Seven others present in the same vehicle had a miraculous escape. They have been rushed to the VS hospital. The deceased are Hitesh Kumar Gajjar, Hetal Gajjar and their mother-in-law. The accident occurred when the Tata Sumo they were traveling in was hit by a truck. Just eight km from Ahmedabad on the outskirts of Basmara village. A complaint has been registered with the Bagodara police station and they are looking for the absconding truck driver.
