Stress on proper town planning

The meeting of Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority chaired by chief minister Keshubhai Patel was focused strictly to adhere to proper town planning standards while implementing the rehabilitation programme in four major Cities of Kutch that were devastated in the earthquake.

Regarding temporary accommodation in the municipal areas of Bhuj, Bhachau, Rapar and Anjar, those houses which have been destroyed or are to be razed to the ground and fall under category four will be entitled for assistance of Rs 12,000 for temporary accommodation.

It was decided that such temporary accommodation would be erected on specific government land or private land. But, temporary construction will not be permitted on any other government or private land.

Those who construct temporary accommodation on a private land will have to make their own arrangements for infrastructural facilities. The local administration was entrusted to ensure that no temporary accommodations are constructed on the road lines under the specified draft development plan.

It was also decided that unauthorized encroachments should not be permitted on the government and public land in Bhuj city. For this, the administration should set up temporary flying encroachment removal squad and flying squads assisted by adequate number of police force to remove any such encroachment, for proper implementation. of standard town planning.

In-charge minister of Kutch Sureshchandra Mehta attended the meeting and finance minister Vaju Vala, water resource minister Nitin Patel and chief secretary L.N.S. Mukundan were also present.

It was directed to the relief commissioner to take decision relating to the properties and their titles in joints names, assistance of tenants, building of trusts and repair assistance to houses illegally occupied for a long period.

The meeting also approved the provision of Rs 42 lakh for contingency plan on health issues for the four cities.

Chief minister Keshubhai Patel stressed the need for ensuring the supply of construction materials and water since the construction of one room livable accommodation in the rural sector should be completed as per schedule on June 30.
