new colleges to seek GU affiliation
Need
committee of the Gujarat University is holding two special meetings to
chalk out details of the colleges running various degree and post-graduation
courses, which might be granted permission to begin academic session in
the forthcoming months. As many as 44 colleges, which are seeking affiliation
from the Gujarat University in this regard will present themselves before
the committee for assessment.
The proposal lists six BBA
colleges, of which four are from Ahmedabad, as many as 19 BCA colleges,
11 being from the city, and two MCA colleges, one of them in Ahmedabad.
The representatives of the academic institutes will see the need committee
on May 30.
Of the other institutes that
have offered science, arts and commerce courses, five colleges have proposed
to take up arts and commerce courses, one institute from Anjar has sent
a proposal to start arts, science and commerce, while as many as 11 colleges
have proposed to start commerce colleges. Representatives of this group
will put forward their proposals and action plans before the need committee
on May 31.
Following the assessment,
the need committee will forward the results to the university academic
council and the executive committee, which will take up further proceedings
as regards granting permission to these institutes.
"Although the academic
session begins in June 2001, by the time these colleges are shown a green
flag, it will be August," remarks a senior official of the university.
"Then how will they facilitate the admissions is a matter of worry,"
he said.
