112 assistant engineers transferred

As many as 112 assistant engineers of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Engineering department were transferred within the department on Thursday. A day earlier, 252 sanitary inspectors were transferred within the Health department.

Civic body officials said that a umber of these employees had been resisting transfers from one post to another, even using political connections to remain in one place.

Some of them have been in the same place for over five years.

DyMC (administration) Vinay Vyasa said on Thursday evening that the assistant engineers have been switched between wards and zones.

"Those in the zone have been sent to the wards and those working in wards have been brought to the zones," Vyasa said. Moreover, many have also been transferred to the Slum Networking Project (SNP).

Meanwhile, in a surprise raid carried out in a Roads department store in Prem Darwaja area, AMC vigilance department officials found five labourers playing cards in the presence of a technical supervisor.

While two persons including the supervisor have been suspended, the other four have been expelled.

This is the first time in recent months that so many employees have been transferred at one time in the Engineering and Health departments of the civic body.
