Girls outnumber boys in general stream top 10

Girls outnumbered boys in class 12 general stream merit list. The results of board exams were declared on Monday by the Gujarat Secondary Education Board. The overall results were 82.85 per cent, around seven per cent less than that of the last year. Shital Rathod of Vishvaniketan School of Ahmedabad stood first in the state with 91 per cent marks.

In the state merit list out of 25 students 16 are girls. Out of a total of 327 students in 27 districts of the state, 226 are girls appearing in the merit list.

Education Minister Anandi Patel who released the result booklet said that in the state merit list ratio of girls and boys is 60 per cent to 40 per cent. In science as well as general stream girl students topped, she added.

Out of 2,76,420 students registered for the class 12 commerce stream, 2,68,053 appeared for exams and 2,29,037 students that is 82.85 percentage of them cleared the exams. The result of Nana Pondha was highest in the state with 98.94 per cent while Kheda was lowest with 38.76 per cent.

In Baroda too the girls made a clean sweep. Of the 14 students who topped from the top 10 tally, 7 are girls. However, only one student from the city could enter in the first 10 tally in the state.

Gujarat State Education Board Chairman P.V. Trivedi said that though the exams were delayed the results were declared on time keeping in mind the point of view of the students. 32,000 people aided in assessing the papers and the results were declared in 26 days, he added. Mr. Trivedi informed that the board had changed the rules to tighten the loopholes, from this year. He students were earlier allowed to reappar for selected subjects for increasing overall marks which has been modified so that students will not be able t cheat during admissions. He said in an effort to change rules, the board had to face 88 law cases but in most cases the high court has appreciated the change of rules. This year 28,000 students passed due to grace marks, which amounts o 12.5 per cent of total result. Sources said the actual results of the board will be 70 per cent if promotees are not considered. Students are given upto 15 grace marks in all the subjects. About 14,564 have failed only in one subject. The board officials announced that the results of class 10 will be declared in the second week of June.
