Success charter: Toppers pick on accountancy career

Be in tune with the times. This is what state and city class 12 (commerce) toppers believe in. For, several of them have decided to opt for a "stable" career in chartered accountancy rather than seeking a conventional degree in masters in business administration, where their future lies to be more or less "unsure."

State topper Shital Rathod of V.V. Higher Secondary School, Naranpura, who scored 91 per cent in class 12 (commerce) echoed the sentiments of her peers when she aired her desire to take up a career in chartered accountant. "Although I find IAS equally promising, I am more inclined towards being a CA," she said.

Hiral Bhatt, tenth in the city with 88.33 per cent, too expressed her ambition of being a successful CA. "The market of information technology and MBA has witnessed major swings - both an upward lift and a downward dip, and I find CA to be an undoubtedly 'safer' option," she stressed. Having been briefed about the merits of the profession from her elder brother, who is pursuing CA, she believes that demand for chartered accountants in business houses would never go down, unaffected by the economic situation and hence her preference voiced for CA.

Ninth position holder in the state, Rajvi Shah of Udgam School who scored 88.67 per cent, does not believe in joining the 'rat race' for an MBA, that is growing "highly uncertain." Others like Nirali Gandhi of C.N. Vidyalaya, who stood seventh in the state with 89.17 per cent, Utsav Kotdawala, second in the state, Chirag Shah, fifth in state, Riddhi Vora, sixth in state, Bhavin Shah and Riddhi Shah, both tenth in the state, aspire to become CA.

But, MBA is not "stale" and completely out, remarked others who are all set to go for it. Nirali's childhood friend and classmate Jalpa Shah, for instance, who has bagged the seventh position along with her, deferred in her opinion about the "hot career." "MBA will remain hot in the market," she asserted as others like Rachita Shah, tenth in the state, Hardik Shah, third in the state and Sachi Parikh, eight in the state nodded approvingly. So, what's their success formula? Determination, is the common reply. Ahem!
