No
mass promotion for students, say officials
There is not going to be
any mass promotion in primary and secondary classes and examinations will
be conducted in schools according to exigency of the situation, asserted
Government officials and school authorities. While Board examination dates
for sensitive areas are yet to be decided, other examinations are expected
to get over by April 15.
R K Chaudhry, Director of Primary Education,
has said that some schools had already prepared their schedules, but admitted
that exams might get delayed in disturbed areas by a week or more. He
said education committees in their respective districts could finalise
the exam schedules.
He said that he had received a message from
Ahmedabad Municipal School Board on conducting examinations. School Board
Chairman Dinesh Raval said that he had sought the State Governments
advice in the matter and a reply was awaited. He
said exams in municipal primary schools were likely to get over by April
20 in any case.
Additional Secretary for Secondary Education
Gangasinh Parmar said that delay of a couple of days in secondary school
exams might take place depending on the local condition.
Bhaskarbhai Patel, Secretary of Ahmedabad
School Managements Association, said secondary school exams in the citys
high schools will get over by April 14.
All schools are free to decide
their exam dates but of course, students in the walled city will have
to be provided with a separate arrangement and they will be considered
for a retest if things did not normalise soon, he said.
He said the association, which has around
412 schools under it, had last met on March 7 to discuss the situation.
Gujarat Secondary School Board Chairman G K Patel has already asked us
to complete the examinations by April 15, he said.
