Cyber cafes, hotels put on police scanner

With the terrorist attack on Akshardham proving to be an eye-opener, city police has sprung into action and hotels, guest houses and cyber cafes will now be under the watchful eye of the police.

City police commissioner K.R. Kaushik has issued a notification directing all hotels, guest houses and boarding places in the city to send details about their telephone numbers, name, address, mobile phone numbers to the concerned police stations. He has also asked each hotel, guesthouse and boarding place to send in the number of persons staying with them every day to the concerned police stations before 11 am daily.

After the attack on Akshardham complex on 9/24 police commissioner has also asked all cyber cafes to submit details about their premises and the services provided to obtain licenses for their services. The owners of cyber cafes will have to submit the details on a stamp paper of Rs. 100 and on an indemnity bond of Rs. 200. This information has to be provided before October 7 according to Mr. Kaushik’s noticification. This has been done with a view to avoid any misuse of cyber café facilities by anti national elements for subversive activities.

It may be recalled that the city crime branch along with the Delhi police had nabbed one Shahid Ahmed Baxi and his two accomplices from Juhapura area for divulging information to the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyaba through a cyber café in the area. They were arrested on the eve of Janmashtami.
