For
Art's sake
A good break and Natarani's back in action
with some interesting plays and performances beginning with Shylock,
a one-man show by Gareth Armstrong, on September 20. This award winning
performance explores Shylock through the eyes of his only friend, Tubal.
This would be followed by Bach-Jazz Concert, a classical music
recital by Thomas Gabriel a week later where there'll be some of piano,
guitar and drums to have to 'swing'!
A Festival of Non-violence would include
a one-man show by Shekhar Sen in Kabeer, an Inter-college drawing
competition on the subject, Ekta by children of Manav Sadhana,
Gandhiji-Laxmiji-Jungleji, Bawana Be Bagadya and Paraspar - Kahevanu
Kone, by the Darpana Drama group in the first week of October.
"Apart from dramas, music and dance
performances would be interactions, and talk sessions by eminent people
who'll speak on a variety of issues concerning society at large. It could
be paintings and social issues or even something like poetry-reading,"
informs Mallika Sarabhai, about some of the forthcoming events.
Apart from plays including those by city-based
artists like Hasmukh Baradi's Jashumati Kankuvati, there would
be workshops on Art and Spirituality, classical music concerts and Hindustani
vocal.
What's more, December would witness productions
like The Diary of Anne Frank and The Greek Woman Through The
Ages, which would be followed by the yearly held Vikram Sarabhai Festival.
Theatre lovers can look forward to an encounter with variety in all its
forms. So, look out, there's going to be enough to see and enjoy.
