| City eats mangoes in winter
The
unseasonal downpour on Friday evening caught the Amdavadis unawares, bringing
along another bout of wintry chill in the city.
According to the Indian Meteorological
Department, Ahmedabad the unseasonal rain was a result of western disturbances
and is a temporary climatic phenomenon. While the pleasant climate had
a soothing effect, water clogging in many areas proved to be a spoilsport.
In areas like Vastrapur and
Bodakdev where innumerable potholes litter the entire stretch of roads,
commuters had a harrowing time. People had a tough time making way for
their vehicles through the flooded low-lying areas. With no traffic policemen
manning the roads, it was difficult for motorists to drive near the Mansi
Complex crossroads where they had to dodge the stray cattle near the vegetable
market.
While the rainfall in Ahmedabad
was reported to be 1.8 mm, one or two rain spells were also reported in
Mehsana district, Bhuj, Rapar and isolated parts of Saurashtra.
The meteorological department
has also forecast one or two rainspells or thundershowers in Ahmedabad
district and in isolated places over North Gujarat for the next two days.
