GU to start refunding fees from Tuesday
The Gujarat University
will start refunding the excess fees charged from the students of MBA
and MCA by various self-financed institutes affiliated to it from Tuesday
onwards, said vice chancellor A U Patel.
The
university and the All India Council for Technical Education had earlier
ordered the self-financed institutes to refund the first installment of
excess fees charged from the students in the academic year 2000-01 to
return before July 31. The second installment of excess fees will have
to be returned by August 31 towards payment to the students of academic
year 2001-02.
A
total of seven self-financed MBA and nine MCA institutes are affiliated
to the university. All such institutes except Som Lalit Institute of Management
and Computer Applications and L J Commerce College have either returned
the excess fees or have agreed to do so before July 31, Mr Patel said.
The
students will be paid back through crossed cheques on producing ID card
or a photograph attested by the respective college on its letterhead.
It
may be recalled that the institutes had overcharged the students of MCA
by Rs 12,500 in payment seats category and Rs 5,500 in free seats category.
Likewise, the MBA students were overcharged by Rs 7,500 in the payment
seats category and Rs 6,000 in the free seats category.
National
Institute of Cooperative Management, Gandhinagar and Nirma University
have already submitted the excess amount to the university. Institutes
run by Gujarat Law Society will submit the excess fees on Saturday where
as institutes run by Ahmedabad Education Society and S K Patel Institute
of Management and Computer Applications have consented to refund the first
installment of excess fees before July 31.
Meanwhile,
the university will request the government to initiate criminal proceedings
against Pipaliya Arts and Science College, Baroda which was recently found
to be indulging in a number of malpractices. The institute had forged
answer sheets of SY BA, SY BCom and SYBSc and threatening the teachers
apart from charging fees as a self-financed institute even though it is
a grants-in-college accrued over Rs 1 crore, he added.
